Julia Camarena - a cheerful and outgoing person - was born and raised in Mexico, where she worked as a cell phone salesperson and as a flight attendant for a Mexican airline. In February 2010, Julia moved to the United States! She could not speak or understand English, but she was determined to learn! Not only did she accomplish her goal in learning English well enough to use it as a second language, but she also went on to earn her GED at the Bakersfield Adult School! Soon after, she began volunteering at a foundation that helps migrants with immigration status and their rights.

Julia came to H.E.A.R.T.S Connection as a new parent when her son, Ari, was diagnosed with Autism. She had no prior experience or knowledge in the world of special needs. H.E.A.R.T.S. trained her how to be an advocate for her son, teaching her about her parental rights and about the laws that would protect her son at school and in the community!

She wanted to give back, so she started volunteering at H.E.A.R.T.S. until she was offered a part time position as an assistant! She loves being part of the H.E.A.R.T.S. family!!

Now Julia has a new goal: To continue with this legacy of helping to prepare and train parents to obtain resources and advocacy for their special needs kids!

She loves spending time with her husband of 12 years - David. They both enjoy nature walks, traveling, spending time with their families, decorating, and organizing events.
