Welcome to H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection!

Creating a Place Where Dignity, Compassion & Connection Come First.

Every Person Has a Story

Behind every need is a person.

Behind every person is a story.

H.E.A.R.T.S. is committed to coming alongside individuals, families, and communities with compassion, dignity, and genuine connection.

We believe people are more than their circumstances, more than the challenges they face, and more than what others may see on the surface.

Everyone who works at H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection has a personal connection to someone with an intellectual or developmental disability. We know there are both joys and challenges along the way, and through our own experiences, we have gained understanding, perspective, and knowledge that we hope can help you on your journey.

Because sometimes, real change begins with something simple: someone willing to see you, hear you, and walk alongside you.

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection exists to walk alongside parents and families of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 3–22 —providing connection, resources, encouragement, and support along the way.

You don't have to navigate the journey alone.

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection Empowers Families

Through Support and Community

“We help families with children who do have disabilities,” Johnson explained, noting that some members of the organization are parents of children with disabilities themselves. That firsthand experience helps the organization understand the challenges families may encounter…

Heroes for Hearts &

Bakersfield Buddy Walk

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection is preparing for

Heroes for Hearts and the Bakersfield Buddy Walk

Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Yokuts Park

The event brings together two efforts with related but distinct missions. The Bakersfield Buddy Walk is part of a nationally recognized effort supporting awareness of Down syndrome, while Heroes for Hearts, organized by H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection, recognizes and supports people with all disabilities.

The fundraiser will help H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection continue providing services and support to families across Kern County. Funds can help cover needs not met through the organization’s grants and make it possible to offer activities, support groups and other resources to families.

The event is also designed to provide families with an opportunity to connect with one another in a welcoming environment.

Attendees can expect a kid zone with games and face painting, contests, informational vendors, food vendors and merchandise vendors. Johnson said one of the most rewarding aspects of the event is seeing parents meet and socialize with other families who understand what they are going through.

Autism on the Run 2026

What happens when a community comes together to celebrate, support, and stand alongside families? This! H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection’s Autism on the Run 2026 brought families, friends, supporters, and community members together for a day filled with connection, encouragement, and purpose. More than a race, the event was a celebration of the families we serve and a reminder that every family deserves to feel seen, supported, and connected.
