Susan Graham – Director
Susan Graham is the Director and a founding member of H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection, bringing decades of leadership, advocacy, and compassion to the organization. Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, Susan graduated from East Bakersfield High School and attended Bakersfield College. She has been married to her husband, Michael, for over 40 years and is the proud mother of two grown children and grandmother to a grandson with autism.
H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection was founded in 1990 when Susan’s daughter, Kimberly, was two years old. Kimberly was born with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic neurological disorder, and required lifelong care. Navigating the challenges of securing services for her daughter deeply shaped Susan’s commitment to advocacy and family support. Susan served on the H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection Board of Directors for nine years, including roles as Secretary and President, before becoming Director in 1999.
Susan continues to find meaning in supporting families as they seek resources, encouragement, training, and connection. She is passionate about making the journey smoother for families raising children with disabilities. Outside of work, Susan enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, playing the piano at her church, and caring for her daughter’s memorial garden.
